Illustration at Sheridan College

What We Do

This blog has been created to give you an inside view of what we do in the Illustration department at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario Canada.

Whether it is for books, magazines, web sites, advertising, information, scientific or technical purposes, illustration is an iterative art, which informs, inspires, and educates through the use of visual imagery. Illustrators create many of the stories, characters and cultural byproducts central to our visual culture. The Sheridan Bachelor of Applied Illustration is the only four-year degree-granting program in Canada, which offers a full spectrum professional practice in both the interpretive and technical-scientific streams.

Our mission is to offer a comprehensive education in illustration thereby insuring that graduates are equipped with the depth, theory, skills and entrepreneurship to sustain careers in the field. The program stresses preparation for professional practice, including proficiency in traditional and digital media. It also encourages personal exploration and the development of an individual voice. Our curriculum offers students the opportunity to explore interpretive or technical and scientific illustration in depth, supported by theory and study courses. The faculty represents the complete spectrum of illustration practice and is committed to the future of illustration in a dynamic global market.

Faculty

The faculty resource is comprised of 9 full professors and many part-time professors who come from a variety of related disciplines and who in addition to teaching maintain their creative and professional activities. Full and part-time faculty work together to ensure that all the program’s course offerings are conveyed in the most accessible, relevant and engaging manner as possible. You will find that faculty have different roles; studio professors deliver most of the course content, and course leaders ensure consistency across sections, assist in the development of projects and course materials, and deliver lectures and critiques, as required.
